Etymology: Bagrichthys: Mozarabic, bagre, taken from Greek, pagros = a fish (Dentex sp.) (Ref. 45335); obscurus: Specific epithet from the Latin obscurus, meaning indistinct, in reference to the uniform brown color of the fish.
