Etymology: Fowleria: Taken from Fowler, ichthyiologist, 1945 (Ref. 45335).

This species is synonym of Fowleria variegata (Valenciennes 1832) according to Gon & Randall, 2003 (Ref. 50837). The species page will be removed.

Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 8. Reddish brown with 3 to 4 rows of black spots on the sides and unmarked fins (Ref. 37816). Eye yellow; white-rimmed black ocellus on operculum (Ref. 48635).

Found in coastal mud flats and reefs to 10 m depth (Ref. 48635). Nocturnal species (Ref. 7300). Very cryptic and rarely seen, even at night (Ref. 48635).
