Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Lives in schools of about several dozen individuals, in muddy creeks or along the sandy-muddy edge of shallow estuarine zones. Sometimes stays motionless at the surface and prefers to seek shelter beneath floating plants. Fertilization is internal (Ref. 35237). Several days after fertilization, females lay eggs individually on aquatic plants. 7 cm male 8 cm female max TL (Ref. 026130, needs confirmation). Not a seasonal killifish (Ref. 27139).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

1 - 2 eggs are visible through the transparent body of the female. Viviparity is facultative, as the eggs can be laid prematurely and be attached to plants (Ref. 35237).

Estimates of some properties based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82805):  PD50 = 1.0000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00676 (0.00289 - 0.01579), b=3.13 (2.94 - 3.32), in cm Total Length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic Level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.4 se; Based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 69278):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (11 of 100) .
